I’m Jer Ayles. I’m a Boomer. And I’ve been monetizing expertise since before most “online business experts” had email addresses.
I grew up in a single-mother household in San Diego. My first job? Paper route, first grade. Then TV Guides door to door. Baseball shagger in junior high. Busboy at a steakhouse at 15 (the food was incredible). Janitor at Fender Guitar Company at 17.
From janitor, I worked my way up: maintenance man, electrician’s helper, foreman, production manager for Squier Guitar Strings, then Gulbranson Drums, then Fender Guitar production manager overseeing nearly 1,000 unionized employees.
All while married at 17, three kids by 22, and attending Cal Poly Pomona at night.
Eventually I left manufacturing to learn how to sell. Memberships for a singles club in Newport Beach. Bought an Ugly Duckling Rent-a-Car franchise. Combined it with a U-Haul truck rental dealership. Took web development classes at Saddleback College and launched an agency.
Then I found my lane: subprime consumer lending.
I launched a loan store in Mission Viejo. Built it to 15 locations. Got acquired by a private equity firm. Kept running my web development agency on the side.
In 1997, I needed a class project for my web design course. So I built a website teaching entrepreneurs how to start a payday loan business. I sold thousands of digital products at price points from $197 to $375. I added consulting services and helped executives at several lenders who went on to become publicly traded companies.
I’ve been quoted in The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg about the subprime lending industry. I’ve sold nearly 5,000 copies of my flagship eBook, known in the industry as “The Bible.”
Today I live on a waterfront property in Newport Beach with my wife of 16 years, whom I met in a dance class.
